Memorials: Book Memorials
2024- Three Books wer donated to the Portsmoth Free Public Library in memory of Yvette Whittle. They were Land Art : Creating artworks in and with the landscape by James Brunt, Land Art in Town : Simple inspiraion through the seasons and Modern Japanese Ikebana : elegant flower arrangements for your home by Shinichi Nagatsuka.
2023 -The books A Rose Named Peace; How Francis Meilland created a Flower of Hope for a World at War by Branra Carrroll Robers and For Love of a Rose : The Story of the Creation of the Famous Peace Rose, by Antonia Ridge were donated to the Portsmouth Free Public Library in memoery of Sofi Coefield (Mrs. Kip). The first is for the children;s collection and the second for the adult non-fiction collection.
2023- The book, French Blooms, floral arrangements inspired by Paris and beyond by Sandra Sigman was placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library in memory of Dorothy Backman, Past President. (Mrs. William).
2023- The Book, The Gardens of Bunny Miller by Linda Jane Holden has been placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library in memory of Marilyn Brockway, past president. (Mrs. Kenneth)
2023-- Three books on turtles ( for a favorite of our Turtle Lady") were donated in memory of Pamela Maxon to the Portsmouth Free Public Library. The adult book Our Sea Turtles A practicle guide for the Atlantic, Gulf..., by Blair and two Juvenile books Yoshi, Sea Tutle genius : A true story about an amazing swimmer, by Cox and Turtle splash! counting at the pond by Falweell were added.
2022- The book American Roots ; Lessons and Inspiration from the Designers Reimagining Our Home Gardens was donated to the Portsmouth Garden Club in memory of Joy Schuur (Mrs. Theodore) who died in October.
---The Adventures of a Narrative Gardener, Creating a Landscape of Memory by Newporter Ronald Lee Fleming was presented to the Portsmouth Free Public Library in memory of Jeanne Wiant, Past President.
2020- The book Gaia's Garden, a Guide to Home-Scale Permaculure (Second edition) by Toby Hemingeay was presented to teh Portsmouth Free Puclic Library in memory of Margery Cunningham. (Mrs. Dale)
-- The books The Informed Gardener and The Informed Gadener Blooms Again by Linda Chalker-Scott were presented to the Portsmouth Free Public Library in memory of Barbara Stenning (Mrs. Gordon)
---The books Gardening in Miniature by Janit Calvo and Miniature Gardens by Katie Elzer-Peters were presented to the Portsmouth Free Public Library by the club in memory of Cecelia "Ce" Borden.
2019- The book Heroes of Horticulture: American Who Transformed the Landscape was presented to the Portsmouth Fee Public Library in memory of Past President Evelyn Schultz, by the club.
2018- --Two books, Designing with Succulents and Success with Succulents placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library in memory of Past President Lillian (Lil) Cerce (Mrs. George).
2015 - Three books have been purchased by the Garden Club for our deceased Past President Dorothy Leonard (Mrs. Arthur). As a Past President whose concern for the Environment was always evident. One copy of the Enchanted Frog: An Environmental Tale will be placed in the Portsmouth Public Library and in Hathaway and Melville elementary school libraries in Portsmouth.
Additionally the book Foraged Flowers was placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library by the club.
- Three books have been placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library in memory of Cecile Howard. They are- Women of Steel and Stone: 22 Inspirational Architects, Engineers and Landscape Designers by Anna Lewis and An Authentic Garden: Five Principles for Cultivating A Sense of Space by Claire Sawyers and On Chinese Brush Painting: Flowers by Lok.
- A book entitled The Bartlett Book of Garden Elements by Michael Valentine Bartlett and Rose Love Bartlett and The DVD The Queen's garden and the book, and the book The Royal Horticulture Society The Garden Anthology were placed in the Portsmouth Free Public Library in memory of Borghild (Boy) Dyson (Mrs. Edwin).
