Portsmouth Garden Club wins Club Challenge ribbons at Newport Flower show for 3rd year in a row
The Portsmouth Garden club won three ribbons for the Club Challenge class at the Newport Flower Show “At Home”. The team of Karen Saucier, Suzan Ballard, Janet Shrake and Joan Kirwin spent months growing plants to meet the entry requirements of a “Mobile Garden, to plant a garden cart, predominantly with veggies”. Their efforts earned the club a Blue ribbon, a Green, Most Creative ribbon and a Pink, Judge’s Commendation ribbon. This is the third year in a row that the club has won the blue in the club challenge class.
Other winners included a Blue ribbon for Colleen Gebhard for her entry in the class “Collections”, a miniature design in an open-front box niche incorporating a collectible. Linda Kirkpatrick won Honorable Mention in the class, “The Kitchen Garden, a Pot-et-Fleur design”. Roberta Stevens, won two blue ribbons and two yellow ribbons for her horticultural entries in the class Hosta with different of varieties in the miniature (under six inches and par, a collection). She also won a red ribbon in the “Annual in Bloom- Other” class with a pansy.
